An emotional convocation ceremony

Posted on Tuesday, June 27, 2017

The convocation ceremony for Faculty of Education graduates, uOttawa campus, took place on June 21, 2017, at the Shaw Centre. An atmosphere of expectation prevailed as the first graduates began arriving, with laughter, tears and pride clearly on display. The students maintained a high level of excitement throughout the event, from the moment they put on their caps and gowns to the inevitable photo sessions to when they finally walked across the stage to receive their diplomas.

The ceremony was punctuated by several memorable moments. First came the speech by the Faculty’s recipient of an honorary doctorate, Professor Sonia Nieto, who spoke eloquently about bilingualism and the added value it brings. Next came a very public declaration of love between two bachelor’s degree recipients as Marc Louisseize proposed to his girlfriend Morgan Brown. Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple! Then came a quiet moment of reflection in memory of Augustine N’Guessan, a teacher-in-training who passed away during the summer of 2016 and who was awarded a diploma in absentia.

Congratulations to all those who were awarded a bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral degree or graduate’s diploma!

Be sure to check out the photos and a video of the event.
