Prerequisites and registration requirements

Prerequisites and registration requirements are listed on the course description page of each course.

You must use our online application to register for our professional development programs.  Once registration is closed, you can register by downloading and printing the registration form. (No enrollment will be accepted after the beginning of the course)

Before your registration can be processed, you must provide the supporting documentation listed under the pertinent program below.  Apart from the official transcripts (originals), the other supporting documentation can be sent by e-mail.

One-session Additional qualifications

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of teachers

Honour specialist (AQ)

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers

Hold an undergraduate degree of 120 units, of which 54 are in the subject specialty (chosen teaching subject), with a minimum 70% (B) average, or the equivalent

Possess at least two years of teaching experience, with at least one year in the specialization sought. The statement of experience form is available online (PDF).

NOTE.  If you’re applying to the Honour Specialist AQ program for general science, you must have a minimum of one full-year university course in each of biology, chemistry, and physics.  If you wish to register for he Foundations course for the Honour Specialist, please choose the 'teaching subject' for the appropriate course.  You will automatically be registered for the Foundations course.

Three-session Additional qualifications

Part I

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers

Part II

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers

Provide proof of Part I on your Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers

Submit a completed statement of experience (PDF), signed by the appropriate school board supervisory officer certifying the candidate has successfully taught for a minimum of one year, or the equivalent (194 days of supply teaching)

Part III (Specialist)

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers

Provide proof of Part II on your Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers

Submit a completed statement of experience, signed by the appropriate school board supervisory officer certifying the candidate has successfully taught for a minimum of two years, with at least one in the specialization sought

The statement of experience form is available online (PDF).

Additional basic qualifications

Primary division

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers

OR be referred by the Ontario College of Teachers (for candidates who hold a teacher’s certificate or permit from another province or country)

Junior division

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers

OR be referred by the Ontario College of Teachers (for candidates who hold a teacher’s certificate or permit from another province or country)

Intermediate division

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers

OR be referred by the Ontario College of Teachers (for candidates who hold a teacher’s certificate or permit from another province or country)

Provide an official transcript* showing successful completion of at least four one-term undergraduate university courses (12 units) in the chosen teaching subject

NOTE: If you wish to register for the 'Foundations' course for the ABQ Intermediate division, please choose the 'teaching subject' for the appropriate course.  You will automatically be registered for the 'Foundations' course.

*Original transcript document bearing institution seal showing grades obtained (graduates of University of Ottawa are not required to provide transcripts)

Senior division

Candidates must:

Be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers

OR be referred by the Ontario College of Teachers (for candidates who hold a teacher’s certificate or permit from another province or country)

Provide an official transcript* showing successful completion of at least six one-term undergraduate university courses (18 units) in the chosen teaching subject

NOTE: If you wish to register for the 'Foundations' course for the ABQ Senior division, please choose the 'teaching subject' for the appropriate course.  You will automatically be registered for the 'Foundations' course.
