Faculty regulations
Admission to a program requiring previous university studies

The Faculty of Education requires previous university studies or a university degree as a prerequisite to admission. It is your responsibility to confirm that your program (or degree) meets the accreditation requirements of the professional association you will join.

University fees

Tuition and administrative fees are subject to annual adjustment by the University’s Board of Governors.  For more information on fees and regulations related to professional development programs, visit the Faculty of Education’s Fee page.

Fee exemptions

Professional development programs are self-financed; As a result, tuition-fee exemptions usually awarded to persons 60 and over, and to University staff members, their spouses and their dependents, do not apply to these programs.

Attendance

You are expected to be punctual and attend all classes, beginning on the first day of the term.

Grading system
Official grading system

The University of Ottawa’s official grading system is alphanumeric, and must be used for all courses except those formally exempt by the University Senate. These include courses where Satisfactory/Not satisfactory or a Pass/Fail grading scheme is used to assess learning outcomes.

Passing grades

At the Faculty of Education, a passing grade is "C".  Any grades below a ‘’C’’ is considered a failing grades for undergraduates

Students at the Faculty of Education, including students in professional development courses (AQ, ABQ).

Review of grades and appeal
Final standing

In order to be recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers for an entry on the Certificate of Qualification, you must obtain 60% (passing grade of C) in each of the required courses.  In honours specialist programs, a failing grade is any grades below 65% (C+).

Supplemental examinations

Supplemental examinations comprise a written examination or additional assignments.  If you fail a course, you have the right to one supplemental examination, in which you must obtain 60% or a Satisfactory grade to pass.
