The Research Chair in Mental Health is a newly established research chair in partnership with the University of Ottawa (Faculty of Education) and l’Institut de Recherche de l’Hôpital Montfort (uOttawa-IRHM). The uOttawa-IRHM Research Chair will enable Dr. Koszycki to conduct research on the etiology and treatment of anxiety and depression in primary and secondary care patients. Anxiety and depressive disorders are among the most prevalent mental disorders and are associated with significant suffering and burden to society. This research chair will make it possible for Dr. Koszycki to expand her research on the efficacy of different psychosocial and mind-body interventions for anxious and depressed patients and evaluate mechanisms that contribute to therapeutic change. She is particularly interested in understanding the biopsychosocial processes of psychotherapy outcome and relapse prevention, and whether psychosocial treatments can normalize the brain and promote neuroplasticity.
