Marielle Simon a débuté sa carrière en enseignement aux cycles primaire et moyen en Ontario et a occupé quelques postes en recherche dans les conseils scolaires de la région d'Ottawa. Elle est professeure à la Faculté d'Éducation de l'Université d'Ottawa depuis 1994 et a obtenu son titulariat in 2004. Ses recherches portent sur l'évaluation des apprentissages en contexte de la salle de classe et à grande échelle et sur les méthodes de recherche en éducation. Depuis 2003, elle a obtenu, à titre de chercheure principale ou en collaboration, bon nombre de subventions de recherche reliée aux pratiques de notation des enseignants, à la nature de la note finale aux bulletins scolaires, à la participation des étudiants aux enquêtes à grande échelle des apprentissages, à la validité comparative des résultats de multiples versions linguistiques des enquêtes, au traitement des données manquantes dans les recherches et au développement d'une approche hybride d'introspection basée sur la théorie du rationalisme critique à des fins de recherche en éducation. Marielle Simon began her career as an elementary school teacher in Ontario. She later worked in the research departments of various School Boards in the Ottawa region. Her mandate as a professor at the Faculty of Education started in 1994 and she became full professor in 2004. Marielle received, as principal researcher or as co-researcher, funding for numerous research projects on topics related to classroom and large-scale assessment such as the assessment portfolio, the effects of reading and writing teaching practices on student achievement on large-scale assessments, teacher grading practices, student motivation on large-scale studies, validity of comparative assessment results from various linguistic versions, treatment of missing data in educational research and the development of a hybrid introspective data collection method based on rational criticism.
