2008 Award for Excellence in Research Recipient
Yves Herry is passionate about teaching. According to him, education is both a profession and a fascinating study and research area. Professor with the Faculty of Education for almost 20 years now, he also occupied the position of Vice-Dean, Research and Professional Development.
A prolific researcher, Yves Herry has published numerous articles, books, book chapters and reports. He is particularly interested in psychopedagogy, the impact of teaching strategies in child development as well as French-language education in a minority context. He has been part of the core research team of the Better Beginnings, Better Futures project, a longitudinal research group on the long-term effects of early childhood prevention programs on disadvantaged children in Canada.
The excellence Yves Herry has demonstrated in his research projects has earned him many grants, notably from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Education. He has also made distinguished contributions in organizing conferences and seminars, such as the international conference on research on French-language education in Ontario.
As Vice-Dean, Research and Professional Development, he played a preponderant role in the development of the Faculty' research activities; primarily through his support to researchers toward their research initiatives, but also with his constancy to contribute and maintain dialogue and decision-making in all fields of activity related to research in education. Consequently, he considerably contributed to the current Faculty positioning, ranked third in Canada for the impact of its publication on education research according to international statistics published by Research Infosources Inc., not to mention that over the last three years, the Faculty was awarded 8.5 million dollars in research funding, whereas five years ago, this figure was 2.7 million.
Respected professor, accomplished researcher and recipient of numerous prizes, Yves Herry was appointed, in September 2008, Associate Vice-President with the Teaching and Learning Support Service of the University of Ottawa.
