Bernard W. Andrews


Professor Andrews has developed and administered music and arts programs in school, college and university settings. He teaches secondary music and elementary arts in Teacher Education, and creativity, arts education, curriculum and program evaluation in Graduate Studies. His current research focuses on musical creativity, teacher development in the arts, interactive teaching strategies, and research design. He is the Founding President of the Arts, Researchers and Teachers Society (ARTS) within the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE), a Founding Member of the International Cultural Research Network (ICRN), and a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Research on Educational and Community Services. Currently, Professor Andrews is the Principal Investigator for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) project entitled New Sounds of Learning: Composing music for young musicians. Previously, he was the Principal Investigator for the Laidlaw Foundation funded Odyssey Project: Teacher Development in the Arts (National Capital Region), the Canada Council funded New Music for Young Musicians Project (Ontario and Atlantic Regions), and the J. W. McConnell Family Foundation funded ArtsSmarts Evaluation: Through the Looking Glass (cross-Canada). Professor Andrews has undertaken curriculum/program development reports for the City of Etobicoke, Etobicoke Board of Education, York University, Sheridan College, Peel Board of Education, Nipissing University, University of Ottawa, and evaluation research reports for the City of North Bay, University of Ottawa, International Centre for Trade Policy and Law, Arts Education Consortium (National Capital Region), Canadian Conference of the Arts, Canadian Music Centre, and Ottawa Catholic School Board.
