REQUEST FOR LOCAL SCORERS
Ottawa, Ontario
TIMSS: July 8–19, 2019
PCAP: July 15–26, 2019

The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) is an international assessment conducted under the auspices of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), and it targets mathematics and science knowledge of students in Grades 4 and Grade 8/Secondary II. Countries can choose to participate in the Grade 4 assessment only, the Grade 8/Secondary II assessment only, or both. The assessment is based on a comprehensive mathematics and science framework developed collaboratively with the participating countries. In Canada, about 29,000 students from over 1,100 schools are taking part in the TIMSS 2019 Main Study.

The Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP) is a cyclical program of assessments of student achievement in mathematics, science, and reading, conducted by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC). Each PCAP assessment has one of these areas of learning as the primary domain and includes the other two components as minor domains. In 2019, the primary domain is mathematics. The main study will be administered to approximately 32,000 students from more than 1,600 schools across Canada.

The TIMSS 2019 and the PCAP 2019 Main Studies will be scored in Ottawa, Ontario, from July 8 to July 26, 2019. Approximately 200 scorers (English, French, or bilingual) will be involved in the session, with some participants coming from ministries and departments of education across the country. Therefore, openings will be available for local scorers from the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

Individuals wishing to participate are invited to outline their qualifications and experience, using the electronic form available at https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/localscorers2019. All applications will be considered.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • have a background in teaching language arts, mathematics, or science (as applicable)
  • be a regular teacher, substitute teacher, retired teacher, or future teacher
  • have knowledge of the provincial programs of study for the target populations (TIMSS – Grade 4 and/or Grade 8/Secondary II, PCAP – Grade 8/Secondary II) in their respective subjects
  • be available for the entire duration of scoring session(s) in their respective subjects
  • reside in the immediate vicinity of Ottawa-Gatineau; and
