Teacher, Outdoor Education and Prep Coverage (EN)

Effective Immediately to June 30, 2018 

Teaching assignment to include, but not be limited to:
• Outdoor Education and Prep Coverage 
The successful candidate will: 
• have a demonstrated passion for outdoor and experiential learning;
• have the ability to respond to the learning needs of a diverse range of students, supporting academic, social and life skills; 
• possess expertise with literacy development and the ability to meet diverse learning needs, by innovating and incorporating new ideas;
• develop leadership skills through involvement in staff committees;
• collaboratively develop Individualized Education Plans with colleagues and parents;
• commit to supporting the District’s and school’s goal to improve student literacy, and be knowledgeable about current literacy practices, including reading intervention strategies, assessment and evaluation techniques, best practices, and curriculum surrounding literacy;
• utilize best practice learning strategies and technology to support learning;
• have proven experience working with First Nations students;
• be able to support student learning in a variety of subject areas including ELL;
• possess successful classroom management skills;
• commit to the District’s and school’s goals to improve the success of First Nations students;
• be willing and flexible to teach other courses, as required;
• be physically capable to perform the duties of this position.
Essential Qualifications:
• BC certification with qualifications and/or experience as outdoor and experiential education teachers. 
• Outdoor Education and Experiential certification or significant course work in the theoretical foundations of outdoor/experiential education program planning, development and implementation, instructional strategies, assessment and evaluation for outdoor/experiential education;
• Wilderness First Aid certification (80 hours minimum) and CPR A certification or better (or willingness to acquire). 
Preferred Qualifications:
• One of: NLS or better, Open Water Life Guard, or equivalent water safety training;
• Valid Class 2 BC driver’s license;
• Food Safe Certification;
• Sea Kayak (SKGABC) Level 1 (Day Guide) qualification or equivalent;
• Flat (lake) water Canoe instructor qualification or equivalent;
• Marine Radio Operator’s License and Pleasure Craft Operating Certificate.
